Setting up Windows 95/98


 

1) Double Click on My Computer  

 

2) Double Click on Dial-Up Networking

 

3) Double Click on Make New Connection

Note: If you have never setup a connection you can skip this step. The system will automatically start Make New Connection.

 

4) Enter QContinuum in the box at the top of the window.
 

5) Click on the Next button.

 

6) Enter the phone number for the computer you want to call.

 

 

7) Click on the Next button.

 

 

8) Click on the Finish button.

 

9) You should now have a new icon that is labeled QContinuum. Highlight the icon by clicking on it once. Click on the File pull down menu at the top of the window and select Properties.  Or you can click the right mouse button once and select Properties.

10) Click on the Server Types tab. 

Note: On older version of Windows 95 you press a button called Server Type instead of the tab.

 

 

11) Change the screen so it looks the same as the image to the right.
 

12) Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.

 

13) Change the screen so it looks the same as the image to the right.
 

14) Click OK.

 

 

15) Click OK on next window.

 

16) Click once on the QContinuum icon to highlight it. Click on the File pulldown menu and select Create Shortcut.  Or you can right mouse click on the QContinuum icon and select Create Shortcut.

 

 

17) Windows will show the following message.

Click Yes. Close all open windows. 

 

You should now have a new icon called Shortcut to QContinuum on your desktop.

 

18) Double click on the new icon.

 

19) Enter your username and password.

If you want the system to remember your password place a check in the box next to Save Password.

 

21) The system will now dialup QContinuum. The following are examples of what the screen will display during the connect.

 

22) If you have the newer version of Windows 95 you will see the following screen. If not you will see a connect window.
 

You are now connected to the Internet. You can run any program that runs through the Internet including Netscape or Internet Explorer. Email setup of Netscape and Internet Explorer is covered in a different document.
